Origami Design Secrets: Mathematical Methods for an Ancient Art by Robert J Lang is a one of a kind book.
While most books simply feature diagrams and a short introduction, this one deals not only with simply folding a model, but also designing, grafting, and box pleating. It also covers Lang’s own renowned tree theory.
It contains 23 extremely high quality and well diagrammed models, including the tree frog I’ve folded here, and tonnes of crease patterns.
I particularly like the koi as he does not tell you how to fold the scales in the diagrams, but shows you a crease pattern for one scale and lets you figure it out from there. For the tree frog, Lang takes a simple traditional frog model from the frog base, and using some grafts and a few neat, well thought out folds, turns it into something spectacular!
With 585 glossy pages it will keep you reading and folding for a very long time.
Overall, I can recommend this book to just about anyone from beginner to advanced. Its quality is matched by almost no other book I have seen.
